happy birthday singapore!!
national day was yst, and what with reading patriotic articles in the papers, and the parade itself, with its beautiful view of the cbd skyline and the river, and the proud and loud singing of national songs and the anthem and pledge, those patriotic juices really got flowing heh.
yeahhhhhh. i do love my country
something i read in the papers struck me especially. it was an article that said that alot of people in singapore express their love for the country by saying what it is not, and comparing it to other places, like for example, saying that they like singapore because it is not as dirty as other places, or safer than most etc etc. and the writer was arguing that this is not the way it should be, much like how a parent does not love his/her child because he is better than some other children, or he is not a murderer/rapist or whatever, we should not look at how we feel about our country in such terms. and i feel that this is a very true sentiment, because i too have encountered many people who talk this way, like thier being in singapore is more of lack of choice rather than choice itself. and i really feel sad for such people because they are gonna spend thier whole lives looking for that elusive somewhere that fits thier exact view of what home and country should be like, and some that find it, fine but somehow i just feel that they seem to be taking what they have for granted in putting thier own country down and not doing anything to help what they feel is wrong, but instead, after gaining all they can, to zao to greener pastures.
and i guess the pap will love me now haha. and thus speaks one who does not plan to really work or live here, but no worries, this island will always be home to me :)

oh and had supper with marcus after the parade, ill miss you dude :)
